Flax tow, cleaned a second time for a purer fibre
Product Overview & Applications
Rescutched tow is made from the short fibres released during the initial scutching process. These fibres undergo a specialised second cleaning process, called rescutching, which removes remaining dust and shives.
The result is a clean, versatile flax fibre, ideal for further processing such as carding or cottonising, and for use in specialty paper, insulation and non-wovens.
Production process
The tangled tow is fed into specialized machines with rotating, spiked drums that shake and open up the fibre clumps.
During scutching, the woody fragments (shives) break away from the flax fibres and fall through grates, while dust is extracted resulting in a cleaner fibre, ready for further processing.
